Brian Ihnacak scored two goals as Brown rallied for a 4-2 victory on the road over Clarkson in ECACHL action before 1,861 fans at Cheel Arena Friday night. The Bears, who have won two straight and three of their last four, improve their record to 3-4-1 overall and to 2-3-1 in the league. The Golden Knights, who are winless in their last three games, fall to 3-8-1 overall and to 1-4-1 in the ECACHL.
Brown wasted little time opening the scoring with the game’s first goal just nine seconds after the faceoff. Ihnacak scored into a wide open net after Clarkson’s goaltender Dustin Traylen could not handle an odd bounce off the backboards on a dump in by the Bears’ senior assistant captain, defenseman Gerry Burke.
The Knights tied it up on a shot from the point by Ken Scuderi for his first goal of the season, which skipped past Brown goaltender, Adam D’Alba at 8:41. Freshmen Mike Arciero and Steve Zalewski assisted on the goal, which came on Clarkson’s second shot of the contest.
Zalewski gave Clarkson a 2-1 lead midway through the second period when he stripped a Brown defenseman of the puck at the top of the right circle while on the power play and fired in a quick wrist for his fourth goal of the year, at 10:07.
The Bears came back with the first of three unanswered goals, a power-play marker at 16:59, as Ihnacak knocked in a rebound off of freshman defenseman Paul Baier’s shot to tie the game 2-2.
Brown took the lead at 8:51 of the third on a power-play goal by Mike Meech, who knocked in a rebound during a scramble in front for his second goal of the season. Jeff Prough sealed the win with his third goal of the year, at 14:39, slipping a shot over the shoulder of Traylen on the short side.
The Bears out shot the Knights 28-24. Traylen finished with 24 saves, while D’Alba made 22 stops. Brown was 2-of-4 on the power play, while Clarkson was 1-of-7 with the man-advantage.
