For the second time in twenty-four hours, Wayne State (2-2-2) rallied to score a late third period goal in order to force a tie with Clarkson (2-0-2).
The Golden Knights, who gave up a game-tying goal to the Warriors last night with just over two minutes to play in the third, again found themselves up 3-2 with only a few minutes to play. After extensive offensive pressure by Wayne State, Clarkson failed to clear the puck out of its defensive zone on six consecutive attempts. Jessica Snelgrove ripped a shot that was initially wide right, but senior forward Cheryl Anderson deflected it in for the game’s final goal and the 3-3 final.
The Warriors were forced to play catchup most of the afternoon as Clarkson jumped out to 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the game. Kim Coates was able to clean up a rebound off of Warriors goalie Valery Turcotte and drive it home for her second goal of the year. Sophomore Jill Nolan reclaimed the lead for the Golden Knights, not once, but twice as she recorded goals in both the second and third periods to give Clarkson leads of 2-1 and 3-2.
The dynamic duo of six footers, Zamora and Monk, hooked up for the Warriors’ second goal. They put together some beautiful passing that was finished off by Zamora as she rifled a shot past Clarkson net-minder Kira McDonald. Ashley King scored her second goal in as many days as she tied the game at two in the second.
Jill Nolan recorded three goals over the two game series against the Warriors, and she now leads the Knights with four goals. Jessica Cloutier and Katie Morrison each recorded two assists to give them six and three points respectively.
Clarkson will travel for the first time this year as they will visit No. 9 Mercyhurst for a couple of games next weekend. The Warriors will have their first home contests of the season as they play host to Colgate.
