Annie Annunziato set a single-game school records with five goals and eight points and Augsburg set a single-game scoring record in a 12-1 rout of host Hamline in a [nl]Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Thursday night at the State Fair Coliseum.
Augsburg broke its previous single-game scoring record of 11 goals, set twice in the 1999-2000 season. Augsburg’s 21 assists and 33 total points in the game also are single-game scoring records; the former assist record was 15 (set in 2000) and the former point record was 27 (set in 2001).
Augsburg claimed its third straight victory in improving to 3-1-0 overall. Hamline drops to 0-3-0 on the season. It was the first MIAC game for both teams; the teams conclude their series on Friday night at 5:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Annunziato scored four goals in the first period — a single-period individual school record — and all five of her goals in the first 29 minutes of play. Her five goals broke the previous school single-game record of four, set three times in Augsburg’s nine years of women’s hockey — by Genevieve Allegrezza in 2002, by Angie Rieger in 1999 and by Stephanie Johnson in 2001.
Meanwhile, Kristin Murr became the 20th player in school history to record a hat trick, as she scored three goals in the third period. Annunziato’s linemate, defending MIAC Player of the Year Lauren Chezick, had six assists in the game, and 13 of Augsburg’s 18 skaters figured in the scoring.
Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 47-14 mark to record the victory, hitting the 40 mark in shots for the third straight game. Kristin Johnson made 13 saves in goal to notch the victory.
Augsburg scored twice in the first 46 seconds of play, as Annunziato scored on assists from Carrie Velenchenko and Chezick, and Stacy Anderson scored on a feed from Corrie Krzyska.
Annunziato scored four consecutive goals in a 24-minute span during the first and second periods, finding the back of the net at the 5:11, 11:41 and 13:25 marks of the first, and striking again nine minutes into the second period.
Annunziato also assisted on all three of Murr’s goals in the third.
Hamline’s lone goal came on a score from Jeanne Schipper-Jobe at the 5:26 mark of the third period, on an assist from Emily Gross.
Rachael Young started in goal for Hamline and made 14 saves, giving up five goals in the first period. Alysha Huberty played the second and third periods, making 21 saves and allowing seven goals.
