Junior forward Justin Carre tallied two third-period goals as Canisius battled back from a 3-1 deficit to earn a 3-3 draw with Bentley in Atlantic Hockey action Saturday afternoon at the John A. Ryan Arena.
Bentley built a 3-1 advantage in the final frame when freshman Kyle Larman netted his first collegiate goal with a power-play tally at 4:12. Larman took a shot from just above the circle and it made its way through traffic and by Canisius goalie Bryan Worosz.
Carre and the Canisius offense cut the lead to one just two minutes later and netted the equalizer at 15:34 on the Golden Griffins third power-play goal of the game forcing the overtime.
Neither team mounted a serious threat in the extra frame with shots 4-1 in favor of Canisius.
Bentley opened the scoring in the first period with a power play tally with under four minutes left in the frame, when freshman John Hooks ripped a slapshot that teammate Paul Markarian tipped by Worosz for the 1-0 Bentley lead.
The Golden Griffins evened the score at 7:22 of the second period with a power play score from sophomore Andrew Dawe. Dawe collected a rebound in front of Bentley goalie Simon St. Pierre and tapped in the equalizer.
The Falcons regained the lead late in the second when sophomore Ryan Mayhew received a pass from teammate Joe Lovell and unleashed a slapshot that found the upper left-hand corner of the net.
Lovell finished the game with two assists. St. Pierre finished the game with 38 saves, 17 in the second period and Worosz had 23 between the pipes for the Golden Griffins.
With the tie Bentley snapped a five-game losing streak and improved its record to 1-7-2 overall and 0-2-2 in Atlantic Hockey. Canisius played in its sixth overtime game of the season and moved to 1-6-4 overall and 1-4-2 in conference play.
