Tristan Lush broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period for his first goal of the season to pace Clarkson to a 4-1 victory over Findlay. The Golden Knights, who improved their record to 2-1-2, broke open a tight game with three third-period goals for their first win at home this season.
Lush put Clarkson ahead when his shot from the left circle found its way through a screen in front and beat Findlay’s sophomore goaltender Jon Horrell on the short side at 8:05. The Knights then added two more goals in the final two minutes to seal the victory. Freshman Mike Sullivan finished off a pass in front from Chris Blight and Mac Faulkner at 18:03 for his second goal of the year. With 53 seconds left Blight scored into an empty net for his third of the season after Faulkner won the faceoff deep in the Clarkson zone.
Findlay took the play to the Knights right off the opening faceoff and scored just 37 seconds on the first shot of the game. Senior Christian Olson took a pass from Aaron Weegar at the left circle and blasted a rising shot over the stick-side shoulder of Clarkson goaltender Dustin Traylen for a quick 1-0 lead.
The Knights battled back and tied the score when Chris Brekelmans jumped into the offensive play and stick handled down low, slipping in a shot at 7:46 for his first goal of the year.
Clarkson outshot Findlay 35-21. Traylen posted 20 saves, while Horrell finished with 31 stops. Both teams struggled on the power play with the Knights going 0-of-6 with the man-advantage, while the Oilers were 0-of-5.
Clarkson hosts Sacred Heart on Saturday in its final non-conference game before opening the ECAC campaign next weekend. Findlay (2-3) plays at Colgate tomorrow.
