Holy Cross senior captain Brandon Doria tallied his 12th goal of the season in the third period to snap the Crusaders’ six-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over Iona on Saturday afternoon. Holy Cross improved to 9-8 overall and 7-4 in the MAAC while Iona dropped to 4-13-1 overall, and 4-7 in the MAAC.
The Gaels took a 1-0 lead in the first period with a power-play goal by Ryan Manitowich. Holy Cross answered Iona with three goals in the first four minutes of the second period to stake a 3-1 advantage. Goals were recorded by freshman forward Blair Bartlett, junior forward Matt Conway, and freshman forward Tyler McGregor.
Iona closed the HC lead to 3-2 at the 11:18 mark in the second period with a goal by junior Mark Hallam. The Gaels then tied the game halfway through the third period on a goal by Kelly Bararuk. Doria put the Crusaders back on top for good with 6:55 left in the game.
Sophomore goaltender Matt Norton recorded 25 saves and knotted his second win of the season. Iona’s Ian Vigier turned away 37 shots in the losing effort.
