Freshman winger Michael Bordieri broke open a scoreless tie with a marker 3:46 into the third period to provide the game-winning goal for Quinnipiac in a 2-0 triumph over Canisius Friday night.
The win was the second in a row for the Bobcats, who improved to 11-4-1, 9-1-1 in the MAAC. Canisius falls to 6-11, 6-5 with the loss.
Bordieri nearly put the Bobcats ahead early in the second period, but it was ruled that he batted a rebound in with a high stick. He atoned for that in the final stanza, poking in the rebound of a shot from Joe Testa. Freshman Ty Deinema started the play and was also credited with an assist on the goal.
Quinnipiac tacked on an insurance tally just under five minutes later. Canisius goalie Bryan Worosz made an errant clearing attempt that ended up right on the tape of Bobcats forward Matt Froehlich, who promptly deposited the turnover into the top corner of the Griffs goal.
Sophomore goaltender Justin Eddy made 19 stops to earn his second career shutout. Worosz stopped 22 shots for Canisius in the loss.
The two teams conclude their weekend series Saturday night at 5 p.m. at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
