Trevor Byrne’s goal 33 seconds into the second period proved to be the gamewinner as Dartmouth topped the US National Under-18 Team, 2-1, in exhibition action on Saturday night at Thompson Arena.
Byrne took a Hugh Jessiman feed off the boards and wristed a shot towards the US goal that beat a screened Chris Holt for a 2-0 lead.
Dartmouth built a 1-0 first period lead when Garret Overlock sent a puck past Holt on the power play. Overlock took a Lee Stempniak centering feed and snapped the puck between the goalies legs.
Big Green goalie Dan Yacey lost his shutout bid at the 5:00 minute mark of the third period when Robbie Earl ripped a shot over the shoulder of Yacey and into the back of the cage.
Holt finished the game with 29 saves while Yacey stopped 15 shots for Dartmouth.
The Big Green now breaks for the holidays and will return to action on Saturday, December 28, hosting Notre Dame in the first round of the Ledyard National Bank Tournament at 7:00 p.m.
