In its final game of the calendar year, Quinnipiac needed several key saves from sophomore goaltender Jamie Holden to hang on for a 2-1 win over Bentley College on Tuesday night at Ryan Arena.
The Bobcats snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory and improved to 10-4-1, 8-1-1 in the MAAC. Bentley fell to 4-7, 3-4.
The win was the 16th straight by the Bobcats over Bentley.
Quinnipiac opened the scoring at 14:43 of the opening period on a power-play marker from Matt Froehlich. Brian Herbert worked the puck around to Dan Rossi at the point. Rossi’s shot went wide, but caromed off the back boards to Froehlich, who buried the puck home from the right of the Falcon cage.
Bentley tied the game just less than three minutes later. Ryan Mayhew capped off a 2-on-1 break by flipping a feed over Holden to knot the score.
Craig Falite scored for the second time in as many games at 11:14 of the middle frame. He knocked in a puck from just in front of the Bentley goal to provide the margin of victory. Froehlich and Aaron Ludwig assisted on the goal.
Holden finished the evening with 28 shots on 29 shots. He turned away all 17 shots he faced in the second period and then came up with two saves on shorthanded breakaways midway through the third.
