D.J. Miller scored all three Husky goals as Connecticut snapped Holy Cross’ seven-game win streak with a 3-2 victory at the Hart Center on Friday night.
The win is UConn’s second straight as it improved to 3-6-1 overall, 2-5-1 in the MAAC. Holy Cross dropped to 8-3-0 overall, 6-2-0 in the league.
Miller netted one goal in each period, and UConn goalie Jason Carey stopped a season-high 46 saves to capture his third victory of the season.
Miller got the Huskies on the board 38 seconds into the second period when he intercepted a failed Crusader clearing attempt and roofed a shot into the back of the Holy Cross net. He then scored his second goal of the night with 1:02 left in the period when he took a pass from Matt Owens and redirected it into the goal.
Holy Cross cut the deficit to one 46 seconds into the third stanza when Brandon Doria redirected an R.J. Irving centering pass in to the net. But Connecticut answered three minutes later as Miller intercepted another clearing pass and rifled his third goal past goalie Anthony Quesada.
The Crusaders made the final three minutes of the contest interesting as they bombarded Carey with 10 shots in that span. Finally, with 1:01 left in regulation, Tom Pawlak pushed one past Carey to cut the deficit to one, but the Crusaders could not get the tying goal.
