Babson upended ECAC East rival Amherst on Friday night in the season opener for each team. Junior forward Chris Mansfield and sophomore forward Brett Adamczyk each tallied a goal and an assist to pace the Beavers.
Adamczyk pierced the scoring column 8:30 into the opening period, taking a feed from first-year James LaFrenire and converting on the power play, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Junior Dustin Kim found the back of the net shortly thereafter, extending the lead to 2-0 at the end of the first.
Amherst cut the deficit to 2-1 when sophomore Jon Hill netted his first goal of the season, assisted by junior Mike Kreger. Mansfield netted an unassisted goal with just under five minutes remaining in the third and junior Derek Nisula tacked on an empty-netter to seal the 4-1 Babson victory.
Senior netminder Justin Jagher finished with 20 saves while Beaver junior goaltender Jason Hart turned aside 17 shots. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play while the Beavers improve to 1-0 and 1-0.
