The Warriors threw everything they had at Ferris State goaltender Mike [nl]Brown, but the Bulldogs still won the game. Mike Kinnie scored twice and [nl]Brown turned in another stellar performance to lead the Bulldogs to a 4-1 victory.

FSU carried the play in the first period, outshooting Wayne State 10-7. Phil Lewandowski flipped the puck past Warrior goaltender David Guerrera at 11:29 to make it 1-0. Ferris State then turned up the heat with six consecutive shots to end to period.

?I thought they carried the play through almost the entire game,? Bulldog coach Bob Daniels said. ?We may have had the advantage early, but after that?shot advantage the play turned around quickly.?

The second period featured a strong performance by the Warriors. Throwing pucks left and right at [nl]Brown accomplished nothing. However, Kinnie scored his first of the game, upstairs, from Trevor Large?s one-time pass to make it 2-0 at 7:29.

Wayne State?s persistence payed off in the third period. Greg Poupard took the pass from Maxim Starchenko and found himself alone in the slot. He made no mistake and sent a rocket shot over [nl]Brown?s left shoulder to make it 2-1 at 4:02.

Nothing came easy for either team.

With renewed confidence, the Warriors worked to try to even the score, but Bulldog Brett Smith took advantage of a miscue by a Wayne State defender at 12:55. Stealing the puck and skating in alone on Guerrera, he stuffed the puck past the goaltender to make it 3-1. Kinnie added his second goal to give Ferris State a three-goal cushion at 14:39.

Daniels was happy to get the win, but thought his team could improve for Saturday?s rematch. ?We took some really undisciplined penalties today. When our key players were killing penalties, it was hard to get them out there in other key situations.?
