Fairfield, UConn Battle To Draw

The Huskies’ Jonathan Jepson scored the tying goal and added an assist as Fairfield and Connecticut battled to a 2-2 tie Saturday night.

The draw moves the Stags to 0-3-1 and 0-0-1, and the Huskies to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference.

Kurt Kamienski put UConn on the board at 8:24 of the first period when he collected a loose puck off a Fairfield turnover and ripped a low shot through traffic that found the back of the net.

Jepson collected an assist on the play, which was the only real scoring chance of the first period, as neither team played with much urgency.

After a scoreless second, Dan Cotter tied the game for Fairfield with a goal just 4:11 into the third. Ryan Tormey and Rae Metz each put shots on the cage, creating a scramble in front the net, and Cotter picked up the rebound and finally buried the goal.

Steve Calderara put the Stags up by one with another rebound goal off shots by Jim Lubinski and Casey Laflamme, but UConn did not roll over as Jepson scored at 17:16 to knot the game at two.

Matt Owens fired the puck on goal from just below the top of the right circle. Robert Ryan collected the rebound and found Jepson, who blasted it past the diving goalie.

Craig Schnappinger had another solid outing between the pipes for Fairfield with 21 saves. Artie Imbriano had 23 stops for the Huskies.
