Bemijdi State’s Lill Raynard scored on a six-on-five with 48 seconds left in regulation, sending BSU to a 1-1 tie with Ohio State Friday night, in game one of the teams’ weekend series at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse.
“Our effort was very solid tonight,” Jackie Barto, OSU head coach, said. “We had good control of the third period, but we lost our composure in the last three to four minutes. Bemidji State’s goalkeeper ended with several big saves.”
The Buckeyes were unable to score on their first two power-play opportunities of the game. OSU’s first goal came 17:47 in the first period. Jeni Creary scored on an assist from Jennifer Desson. At the end of the period, Ohio State led Bemidji State 1-0. OSU outshot BSU 11-8.
Ohio State had several scoring opportunities, but was unable to get the puck by BSU’s goalkeeper, Jill Luebke. OSU led BSU in shots 12-8. Neither the Buckeyes nor Beavers were able to score in the second period.
In overtime, Ohio State and Bemidji State each had several scoring chances but neither was able to get the puck in the net. The game ended tied at one.
Freshman Natalie Lamme played all 60:00 in the net for Ohio State, recording 25 saves. Luebke recorded 27 saves.
Ohio State held Bemidji State scoreless on all five of its power-play opportunities. OSU was 0-for-5 on its power plays. The Buckeyes outshot the Beavers 28-26.
Ohio State and Bemidji State finish out the series at 5:05 p.m. EDT Saturday.
