Mercyhurst snapped a two-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over visiting St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The win improved Mercyhurst’s record to 5-2 while the Huskies dropped to 1-5.
Freshman forward Samantha Shirley scored her first career goal on a power play at 16:59 of the first. The teams traded back-and-forth action until midway in the third when junior defender Britney Millar scored an unassisted goal at 12:36. Shirley scored her second of the game into an empty net ay 19:32.
St. Cloud State senior goaltender Laura Gieselman was brilliant in defeat, stopping 35 of 37 shots against her. Senior Tiffany Ribble made a dozen saves to pick up the win.
Mercyhurst leads the all-time series 3-0. The two teams will play again Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
