Holy Cross scored four unanswered goals in the second period and goalie Tony Quesada stopped 21 of 22 shots as the visiting Crusaders defeated the Army Black Knights, 4-1, Friday night at Tate Rink.
Holy Cross forward Brandon Doria scored on the power play 59 seconds into the second to open the scoring for the Crusaders (3-2-0, 2-1-0 MAAC) and added another at the 7:54 mark for all the scoring Quesada would need. Sophomore defenseman Matt Field got the home team on the board with three and a half minutes left in the period when he buried a pass from teammate Chad Mayfield. Field was standing on the left post when Mayfield dug the puck out of the right corner and sent it across the goal mouth.
Jeff Dams assisted on both of Doria’s goals to finish with two points on the night. R.J. Irving, Tim Coskren and Chris Smith also penciled their names in
on the scoresheet for the Crusaders.
Army freshman goaltender Brad Roberts stopped 26 shots in the losing effort.
He falls to 1-1-0 on the year. Holy Cross outshot the Black Knights 30-22.
