Kris Wiebe scored his second goal of the game into an empty net with four seconds left, clinching Findlay’s 3-1 victory over Canisius at the Buffalo State Sports Arena on Friday.
Findlay (1-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period behind powerplay goals from Wiebe and Christian Olson.
Canisius’ Todd Bowler scored on a 5-on-3 power play with 50 seconds left in the third period to cut the lead in half before Wiebe’s empty-netter.
Bryan Worosz stopped eight shots for the Griffs (0-3) before leaving the game after being run over in his crease. Eric Kieffer filled in, making 11 saves in the last 34 minutes and taking the loss. Findlay’s Jamie VandeSpyker made 25 saves for the victory.
The teams finish the series at 4 p.m. EDT Saturday.
