After a slow start, Air Force scored nine unanswered goals in a 9-1 win over Windsor in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at the Academy’s Cadet Ice Arena.
Windsor, which plays several exhibition games against American universities, scored at the 5:55 mark of the first period, by Graham Warren from Jason Melo and Joel Cort.
Air Force, 0-2 on the year, tied the game at 14:28 when Kyle Fransdal scored on a drop pass from Andy Berg at 14:28. The teams went into the intermission tied at 1-1, though Air Force had a 9-2 shot advantage.
From that point on it was all Air Force. Berg netted the eventual game winner on a great pass from Scott Zwiers from the behind the net. Ryan Wiggins scored two minutes later and Zwiers tallied two more goals later in the period for a 5-1 lead after two.
Sophomore defenseman Steve Mead scored a shorthanded goal at 3:23 and then Brian Reaney scored two power-play goals midway through the period. Freshman Carson Strang’s goal at 19:11 made the final score 9-1.
Air Force outshot Windsor, 39-4, in the game. The two teams combined for 29 penalties for 74 minutes. Windsor was 0-for-10 on the power play while Air Force was 4-for-9.
The Falcons return to regular-season action next weekend with a two-game nonconference series at Holy Cross. The teams play Friday-Saturday, Oct. 18-19, at 7:05 p.m. each night. Windsor plays at the University of Denver Monday, Oct. 14.
