The U.S. Under-18 Team completed the weekend sweep of the Fairfield Stags with a 3-2 shootout victory on Saturday night at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
It took ten shooters to settle the game. Jeff Likens scored the only goal of the shootout to lift Team USA to the 3-2 win.
Team USA spent most of the game down by a goal after the Stags got an early power-play goal midway through the first period. Fairfield climbed ahead, 2-0, in the third period with another power-play goal before the Under-18 Team’s offense sparked to life.
Josh Sciba scored his second goal of the weekend series to pull the U.S. within a goal at the 4:41 mark. Just over a minute later, Kevin Coughlin tied the game at two, sending the game into overtime and the eventual shootout.
Wylie Rogers was in net for the win, making 28 saves in regulation and ten in the shootout.
