Mercyhurst improved to 3-0 as it blanked visiting UConn 2-0 Saturday in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Junior forward Lyndsay Barch scored what proved to be the game-winner at 19:14 of the first period, as her slapshot just above the left faceoff circle eluded Connecticut sophomore netminder Shannon Murphy.
Mercyhurst scored the second and final goal of the game at 7:24 of the third period when junior forward Jessica Dillabough scored on the Lakers’ seventh power-play opportunity of the game.
Mercyhurst outshot the Huskies 34-15 as sophomore goalie Desi Clark, making her first start of the season, picked up Mercyhurst’s second shutout in its first three games. Both teams were penalized seven times for 14 minutes.
Mercyhurst and UConn will conclude the weekend series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
