Ben Walter scored two goals and Geoff Schomogyi added a goal and two assists as Mass.-Lowell beat out Concordia 7-2 in an exhibition matchup Saturday evening at Tsongas Arena.
The River Hawks got on the board at 5:20 with Walter’s first goal of the period. Walter scored again at 13:06, with both assists coming from Schomogyi. UML built its lead to four goals in the second period thanks to goals by Peter Hay and Anders Strome before the Stingers responded with a goal at 11:32 of the second by Maxime Isabel.
The River Hawks took a 5-1 advantage into the second intermission thanks to a goal by Ed McGrane just before the break.
Concordia scored its second goal of the game off a Derek Legault attempt. The Stingers could not mount a serious threat to UML, and the River Hawks closed out the game with goals from Schomogyi and Mark Pandolfo.
Chris Davidson started in net for the River Hawks, stopping 12 shots and allowing two goals. Chris Wilcox began between the pipes for Concordia, making 22 saves and allowing four goals. Philippe Ozga came on midway through the second in hopes of stopping the flood, making 31 saves and allowing three goals.
Next Friday, Lowell travels to take on Colorado College at 7:35 (MT).
