Junior captain Dana Lattery tallied five points on the evening while freshman forward Vince Bellissimo added three goals and one assist to help Western Michigan to an easy exhibition win over the University of Waterloo, 12-0.
Seventeen different Broncos recorded points during the game, while nine different players scored for WMU.
WMU head coach Jim Culhane credited his team’s work ethic for the big victory.
“The thing we talked about before the game was the fact that we wanted to execute well in our systems and things we have been working on all week in practice,” Culhane said, “but knowing that with only four days of practice, we knew there would be mistakes made, and the big thing was to make sure we worked hard for 60 minutes.
“That’s what I’m most proud of; not the number of goals scored, but that the work ethic was there for a full 60 minutes.”
Waterloo goaltender Jason Willard had a busy night in net, stopping 25-of-37 shots on goal, while his WMU counterparts, freshman goaltender Scott Foster and sophomore goaltender Mike Mantua, had relatively quite nights in comparison, only having to stop nine shots overall to combine for the shutout.
Bronco special teams were effective on the evening, going three-for-three on the power play, while also tallying one shorthanded goal.
Western Michigan opens up CCHA action next week on Friday, Oct. 11 when they open a home-and-home series with Bowling Green in Bowling Green, Ohio before returning to Kalamazoo, Saturday, for the rematch.
