Wisconsin-Superior advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals by beating St. Thomas 2-1 Tuesday night. Superior now travels to St. Norbert for a two-game series Saturday and Sunday. That winner moves on to the national semifinals the following weekend.
Superior’s Reed Larson scored the game-winning goal on a rebound shot at 12:45 of the second period. Kyle Nosan and Chris Hackett assisted as the Yellow Jackets broke a 1-1 tie.
In the first period, St. Thomas’ Wenkus converted a a rebound shot 44 seconds into the match for a 1-0 lead. Assists went to Drew Palmgren and Tony Lawrence. Superior tied things at the 6:18 mark on a power-play goal by Dale Lupol.
Superior has a 21-5-4 record. St. Thomas finishes at 22-6.
