Mercyhurst won its 21st game overall, and 20th in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Friday night, 5-1 over visiting AIC.
The Lakers got a pair of goals from sophomore Mike Carter, two more from sophomore Adam Tackaberry and a solo game-winning power-play goal from junior Mike Muldoon in turning back the Yellow Jackets for the second time this season.
Mercyhurst is now 21-7-3 overall and 20-0-3 in the conference. AIC dropped to 7-18-0 and 6-17-0 respectively. The Lakers have already clinched the regular-season championship and will host a MAAC quarterfinal game Saturday, March 9.
The loss eliminated AIC from the 2002 playoffs. Sophomore Trent Ulmer had AIC’s lone goal.
Mercyhurst outshot the Yellow Jackets 38-22 in handing freshman goalie Chad Davis his seventh loss of the season. Sophomore Matt Cifelli stopped 21 of 22 shots to pick up his fourth win of the season for the Lakers.
