Providence defeated Connecticut, 3-1, on Sunday at PC’s Schneider Arena in an ECAC Eastern League game.
After a scoreless first period, the Friars opened the scoring at the midway point of the second period on a goal by freshman Rush Zimmerman. The Huskies tied the game at 15:33 of the second period on a power-play goal by Megan McLeod. Just over three minutes later, senior Jackie Tamsin scored on the power play to give the Friars a 2-1 lead.
The Friars (16-11-3 overall, 10-5-2 ECAC Eastern) staved off a late UConn (11-17-3 overall, 7-10-1 ECAC Eastern) rally as Jenn Butsch scored an empty-net goal with 25 seconds remaining. For Butsch, it was her team leading 15th goal of the season.
