Mercyhurst won its 20th game of the season and remained unbeaten in the MAAC with a 4-2 victory over visitng Quinnipiac on Saturday night at the Ice Center.
Mercyhurst improved its overall mark to 20-7-3 and its conference slate to 19-0-3. Quinnipiac dropped to 14-12-4 overall (12-6-4).
The Lakers jumped on the visitors early, as senior forward Tom McMonagle scored his eighth of the season just 1:38 into the contest. Quinnipiac tied the game at 6:49 of the first when freshman forward Matt Craig beat Mercyhurst goaltender Peter Aubry. It was Craig’s seventh of the season.
The score stayed that way until early in the second when Rivers connected on a power play at 1:26. Once again Quinnipiac battled back, getting a late second-period goal from senior forward Ryan Olson, his 18th.
But the Lakers started quickly again in the third as freshman defenseman T.J. Kemp banged in a power-play goal at 1:57. Rivers then completed the scoring with an empty-net score at 19:17.
The Lakers were 2-of-5 with the man advantage while Quinnipiac was 0-for-6. Aubry stopped 22 of 24 shots to pick up his 17th win of the season. He remains unbeaten in the conference at 17-0-2, a save prcentage of .945 and a goals-against-average of 1.61.
Sophomore netminder Jamie Holden took the loss for Quinnipiac as his overall record dipped to 11-6-3.
