Bowling Green and Lake Superior State played to a 4-4 draw Saturday night at the BGSU Ice Arena. The Falcons had two players with multiple-point games, while netminder Jordan Sigalet stopped 43 shots.
The Lakers’ Barry Pochmara registered the game’s first goal at 8:42 of the opening period. Pochmara scooped up a Derek Seal rebound and beat Sigalet top shelf for his fifth goal of the season. Ryan Reid also assisted on the play.
Four minutes later, BG’s Tyler Knight evened the score with his second goal of the weekend. Knight received a pass from Colen Pappas and took a screened shot that beat Laker goaltender Terry Denike through the five hole. An assist was also awarded to Kevin Bieksa.
Bowling Green took a 2-1 advantage later in the period on Roger Leonard’s power-play goal. Leonard’s sixth marker of the season was set up by D’Arcy McConvey and Scott Hewson.
Chad Dahlen scored the lone power-play goal of the night for the Lakers at 11:58 of the second. The Nightingale brothers set up Dahlen’s third goal of the season, a shot from the point that deflected off a defenseman in front of the net and past Sigalet.
The Falcons would go ahead again before the second period was over. Brian Escobedo sent an outlet pass ahead to McConvey in the neutral zone. McConvey then dished the puck to Hewson, who skated into the offensive zone and ripped a shot past Denike at 13:43. Denike was subsequently pulled in favor of Matt Violin.
The Lakers’ Jason Nightingale answered approximately three minutes later with his fourth goal of the season. Adam Nightingale and Ryan Branham earned assists on the play.
The two teams would trade goals one more time before the game ended. Early in the third, McConvey received a dish pass from Greg Day, who was tied up near the boards. McConvey skated out of the corner, around a Laker defenseman, and wristed a shot from the top of the crease, beating Violin stick side at 2:07. Midway through the period, Bo Cheesman slapped a rebound past Sigalet to knot the game at four.
The extra period passed scoreless, preserving the tie. Violin stopped one shot in the extra period, while Sigalet countered with two saves.
Each team went 1-1 on the power play, while taking only two penalties a piece. The Lakers outshot the Falcons 47-34. Sigalet stopped 43 of the 47 shots he faced, while Denike and Violin made 16 and 14 saves respectively. Hewson’s 1-1–2 marked his fourth multiple point game of the season, while McConvey’s 1-2–3 tied a career high for points in a game.
