Bears Net Three Unanswered To Top Lakers

The Brown Bears rallied from a 2-1 second-period deficit to defeat Mercyhurst 4-2 Saturday afternoon, at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Bears improved to 17-6-2 while Mercyhurst dropped to 22-8-1.

Junior defender Randi Pilger scored a power-play goal at 17:00 of the first period to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. It was Pilger’s seventh goal of the season. Brown wasted little time in getting the equalizer as freshman forward Kerry Nugent notched her fifth goal of the season at 17:23. The period ended tied at 1-1.

Mercyhurst reclaimed the lead at 2:54 of the second when freshman forward Chrissy Yule scored her ninth of the year. Brown got the tying goal on a power play when junior forward Courtney Johnson notched her eighth at 18:24.

Brown took the lead for the first time at 10:47 of the third as sophomore forward Krissy McManus scored her 11th of the season. Senior forward Kristy Zamora put the game away for the Bears when she scored her 25th of the year at 18:29.

Brown outshot Mercyhurst 29-27. Freshman goalie Desi Clark lost for the third time this season as her record dropped to 11-3-0. Sophomore Katie Germain improved her mark to 9-3-0.

Mercyhurst and Brown will conclude the weekend series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
