Alaska-Fairbanks topped Ohio State, 6-1, Saturday night at the Carlson Center, giving the Nanooks a two-game sweep of the Buckeyes.
With the loss, the Buckeyes, who are winless in their last seven games (0-5-2), fall to 14-12-4 and 9-9-4 in the CCHA. UAF improves to 19-10-2, 14-10-2 in league play.
The Buckeyes ended the first period down, 3-0. The Nanooks got on the board 5:23 into the game with a Bobby Andrews goal. UAF’s Blaine Bablitz scored on the power play at 15:41 and David Keough tallied the third goal at 17:37. The Buckeyes had a 5×3 power play for 1:27, but were unable to convert. OSU outshot the Nanooks, 13-9, in the period.
Ohio State got on the board 3:20 into the second period, as Daymen Bencharski put in his own rebound, assisted by Doug Andress and Paul Caponigri , for his seventh goal of the season. The Nanooks regained their three-goal lead at 6:18, when Ryan Campbell scored. Ohio State posted 13 shots on net, allowing UAF 11.
UAF clinched the win with two goals in the third period. Ryan Lang and Andrews tallied for the Nanooks. The Buckeyes outshot UAF, 15-6, in the stanza.
Ohio State was 0-for-7 with the man advantage and UAF scored on one of its three chances. The Buckeyes outshot UAF, 41-26, in the game.
