Amherst skated to a 1-1 tie against visiting Wesleyan (4-12-3/3-8-1) Saturday afternoon at Orr Rink. With the tie, the Jeffs (5-12-1/4-10-1) remained in fifth place in the NESCAC standings and virtually clinched a playoff spot with just one conference game remaining.
Amherst sophomore defender Amanda Muller broke the ice 10:56 into the contest, firing a wrister from the slot over Wesleyan sophomore Elizabeth Courtney’s shoulder, off a cross-ice feed from first-year defender Lauren Caldwell.
The second period featured a wealth of scoring chances for both teams. Jeff sophomore forward Alison White missed a wide-open net and teammate junior co-captain Danielle Williams rang a shot off the post moments later.
The Cardinals pierced the scoring column 8:08 into the second stanza when first-year forward Anna Siliciano tallied her team-leading 16th point of the season, shooting a right-handed wrister from the right circle into the top corner of the net, evening the score at 1-1.
Moments later, Siliciano fired a shot off the crossbar and also had a breakaway attempt snared by Jeff junior goaltender Heidi Alexander, who finished with 47 saves.
Courtney finished up with a 16-save performance in net for Wesleyan.
