Harvard went three-for-five on the power play and got a two-goal game from freshman Andrew Lederman to record a 5-2 victory over the US National Under-18 Team in exhibition action at the Bright Hockey Center on Saturday evening.
Lederman got the Crimson on the board in the first, set up by Brett Nowak and Dennis Packard on the power play for the 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
Team USA scored goals just over a minute apart midway through the second to take a 2-1 lead. The Red, White & Blue got goals from David Booth and Tom Dickhudt at the 9:21 and 10:55 marks to make it 2-1 midway through the second.
The Crimson battled back, knotting the game at 2-2 before the second intermission on a power-play tally by Tyler Kolarik, assisted by Dominic Moore and Tim Pettit.
Harvard pulled away in the third, netting three goals in an eight-minute span to seal the win. Lederman scored his second of the game just over eight minutes into the period from assists by classmates Rob Flynn and Ryan Lannon. Sophomore Rob Fried scored his fourth of the year at 10:38, and Pettit closed out the scoring at the 15:10 mark with his ninth of the season.
Goalies Dov Grumet-Morris and Will Crothers split the time in the Harvard net, Grumet-Morris getting the start and allowing one goal with five saves. Crothers also allowed one goal in his 30 minutes of work, making 10 stops. Team USA goalie Tim Roth made 28 saves in the effort.
Harvard resumes ECAC play next weekend, with a pre-Beanpot series at Cornell and Colgate.
