After spotting Lake Superior an early one-goal lead, Nebraska-Omaha rallied for three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 win Saturday night.
The Lakers took the 1-0 lead when junior Aaron Davis scored a shorthanded goal at the 4:43 mark of the first period. Davis’ fifth goal of the season was unassisted.
The Laker lead lasted just over six minutes, as UNO’s Shane Glover scored at the 10:52 mark of the first to tie the game at 1-1.
At 16:06 Dan Hacker netted a pass from Daniel Samuelsson to give the Mavericks a one-goal lead. Then, with under two minutes remaining in the first period Andrew Wong scored to give UNO a 3-1 lead as both teams headed to the intermission.
No scoring took place in the final two periods, and LSSU lost its leading scorer, Adam Nightingale, when he was awarded a five-minute major and a game misconduct for high-sticking. Nightingale’s older brother Jason was also missing from the lineup because of an elbow injury that required four stitches, suffered during Friday’s game.
Terry Denike started in goal for the Lakers and made 34 saves in the absence of Matt Violin . Violin was originally slated to be the starting goaltender, but missed the game with the flu.
