Bowdoin defeated visiting Amherst on Friday evening, 5-0. With the win, the Polar Bears move to a school-best 14-1 record, while the Jeffs fall to 4-11. Bowdoin is ranked second in the latest national poll.
The Polar Bears opened the scoring when Gillian McDonald one-timed a pass from Jess Burke into the back of the net at 4:44 of the first period. Bowdoin increased their lead at 6:02 when Ba Lanoue one-timed a Shelly Chessie pass past the netminder to give the Polar Bears a 2-0 lead.
Bowdoin picked up where they left off in the second frame as McDonald knocked home a rebound at 1:32. At 13:14 on the power play, Beth Muir put home a rebound off a Lanoue shot to give Bowdoin a 4-0 edge.
The Polar Bears closed out the scoring at 2:36 of the third when Katherine Duglin took a McDonald past and beat Amherst goalie Heidi Alexander with a wrist-shot.
The Polar Bears held a 60-7 edge in shots as Emily McKissock made seven saves in net for Bowdoin. Alexander stopped 55 shots for the Jeffs.
