Senior Lloyd Marks had a goal and three assists, and sophomore Chuck Metcalfe scored twice, as Sacred Heart dominated Bentley, 9-1, in MAAC action Saturday evening at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
Sacred Heart, which broke a 3-1 game wide-open with a five-goal second period, improved to 9-4-1 in the conference and evened its overall record at .500 (9-9-2). Bentley, winless in its last 12 contests, fell to 2-18-2 overall and 2-12-2 in the MAAC.
Seventeen different players recorded at least one point for the Pioneers, who more than doubled the visitors in shots, 55-27. Junior Eddy Ferhi made 26 saves to earn his seventh victory of the year.
Sacred Heart scored the game’s first three goals, beginning with Metcalfe’s fourth of the season at 4:48 of the first. Seven minutes later, junior Lloyd Tennant tallied what proved to be the game-winner, and sophomore Marc-Andre Fournier made it 3-0 with 1:38 left in the opening stanza.
Bentley scored its only goal of the night with a minute left on the first-period clock, sophomore Tim Calabro tallying his third on the year with freshman netminder Simon St. Pierre credited with the assist.
The second period was also Sacred Heart with the Pioneers putting 22 shots on goal with five scores. Lighting the lamp in the second were sophomore Mike Reagan, junior Kyle Messier, Metcalfe, Marks and freshman Garrett Larson lighting the lamp. Marks’ goal came on the power play, as did the only goal of the third period, which was scored by senior Peter McRae at 10:28.
