Sophomore Jeff Dams netted his first career hat trick to lead Holy Cross to a 6-0 win over American International College Saturday evening in a MAAC contest. With the win, the Crusaders evened the season series after falling Friday night 4-3.
Holy Cross jumped on the board early at 8:26 of the first period as Dams corralled the puck on an AIC turnover in the defensive zone and lifted a shot over Chad Davis’ left shoulder on a wraparound. Andrew McKay and Tim Coskren assisted.
The Crusaders scored three more times in a four-minute span to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Coskren fed Brandon Doria at 11:59 to give the visitors a two-goal cushion, while Dams and Patrick Rissmiller added power-play goals 59 seconds apart to diminish the Yellow Jackets’ hopes.
After a scoreless second period, Dams finished the hat trick just 2:14 into the final frame, deflecting a shot by McKay past Davis.
Doria added the final Holy Cross score at 14:55.
Derek Cunha finished with 17 saves, and added an assist before being relieved by Dan Calore, who made four stops in just under five minutes of action. Davis turned away 26 shots for AIC.
With the win, Holy Cross improves to 10-7-2 overall and 6-3-2 in MAAC play, while AIC slips to 6-8 overall and 5-7 in the league.
