Mark Spiers scored the game-winner at 6:06 of the second period, and netminder Rick Massey stopped all 22 Fairfield shots to lift Holy Cross to a 2-0 victory Tuesday in MAAC action.
The loss dropped Fairfield to 3-10-1 overall and 2-7-1 in the MAAC, while improving Holy Cross to 8-5-2, 5-2-2.
The two teams played to a scoreless first period, much like their game of two days ago, won by Fairfield.
Fairfield jumped out of the gate early in the second and held the territorial advantage in the offensive zone for the first five minutes of play.
But when Spiers’ shot found the back of the net after passing through a Stag defender’s legs, the Crusaders began to tilt the ice and dictated the tempo for the next ten minutes.
At 17:49 R.J. Irving scored the Crusaders’ second goal of the night, on the power play, when his shot from the point beat Stag netminder Michael Wolfe low to the right side.
Fairfield mounted several quality scoring chances in the third and pulled the goalie with 1:35 to go, but could not score.
Wolfe made 15 stops in goal for Fairfield in the loss.
