Brian Herbert recorded a goal and an assist for the second straight night, and goaltender Jamie Holden stopped 27 shots as Quinnipiac earned a hard-fought 3-1 win over Canisius on Saturday night at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
Ryan Corcoran opened the scoring for Canisius with a shorthanded goal at 4:01 of the first period. However, that would be the only blemish against Holden’s ledger all night long.
Quinnipiac tied the game at 10:26 of the middle frame on a tally from Rob Hammel. Herbert then put the Braves ahead with a power-play marker at 17:38.
Wade Winkler’s first goal of the year late in the third period put the finishing touches on the Quinnipiac win.
Ironically, it was the first time this season that Quinnipiac won a game after allowing the first goal.
