Canisius scored three straight goals in the third period to upend Connecticut, 4-3, Friday night at the UConn Ice Arena.
Canisius’ Chris Duggan scored at the 11:40 mark of the first period to open the scoring. D.J. Miller tied the score at the midpoint of the second period, sending the game into the third stanza at a 1-1 tie.
UConn’s Matt Grew gave the Huskies their only lead of the game just two minutes into the last period on the power play, but Canisius went on to score the next three goals for the win.
Mark Persick scored at the 6:04 mark to tie the game. Rob Martin beat the UConn defense at the midpoint of the period, and Justin Carre sent a shot in off the lower far post for the game-winner.
UConn’s Matt Herhal cut the deficit by one with just over two minutes left, and Connecticut pulled its goalie with 45 seconds remaining, but couldn’t notch the tying goal.
Connecticut’s Jason Carey stopped 20 shots on net, while Canisius’ Sean Weaver had 26 saves.
With the loss, UConn fell to 3-7-2 overall, 3-3-2 in the MAAC, while Canisius improved to 6-5-2 overall, 5-2-2 in the league.
