Senior David Deeves scored two goals to lead Canisius to a 3-1 victory over visiting Fairfield Saturday night at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
The Griffs improve to 5-3-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while Fairfield falls to 2-9-1 overall, 1-6-1 in the MAAC.
Canisius took the early 1-0 lead as Deeves scored his first of the season at the 9:06 mark of the opening period. The Griffs added another goal in the second period as freshman James LeCuyer tallied his second of the year with 7:08 remaining, giving Canisius a 2-0 advantage after 40 minutes.
Fairfield cut the Griffs’ lead in half with a goal by Cody Wojdyla at the 8:25 mark of the third period.
Deeves restored the two-goal margin just over five minutes later with his second of the night with 6:33 remaining in the game.
Sophomore Rob Martin added two assists on the evening, while freshman goalie Bryan Worosz turned away 16 shots in the victory. Fairfield’s Michael Wolfe stopped 25 shots in the loss.
