The Fairfield Stags (2-6, 1-3 MAAC) and the Sacred Heart Pioneers (2-3, 2-2 MAAC) entered the third period tied at a goal apiece, but Sacred Heart scored three unanswered tallies, one with an open net to take the win, 4-1.
The two teams played a period and a half of scoreless tight checking hockey, until the 14:20 mark of the second when Hunter Greeley popped home a rebound from Blaise Silka’s shot to put the Stags ahead 1-0. But less than two minutes later Mike Reagan evened the score for the Pioneers.
Turnovers again proved to be Fairfield’s achilles heel, as they would give up several in the third, two resulting in goals. Lloyd Tennant cashed in on the first just 1:22 into the final frame, and Marc Fournier got the second at 5:46. Martin Paquet added the final goal on the open
net at 19:28.
Craig Schnappinger was again sharp in goal making two breakaway stops and several saves at point blank range. He finished with 32 saves on the night. Eddy Ferhi was equally sharp making 37 saves including a penalty shot taken by Fairfield’s Rae Metz.
