Providence skated to a 2-2 tie against Maine on Sunday at Schneider Arena.
Providence tied the game with 9:45 minutes remaining in regulation as junior Danielle Culgin scored off a rebound. The Friars had the only shot of overtime, to no avail.
The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead at the 2:25 mark of the first period as freshman Rebecca Culver scored off assists from freshman Andrea Steranko and junior Cailee Heggestad. The Friars tied the game at the 6:51 mark of the first period, as sophomore Meredith Roth converted a pass from junior Jenn Butsch.
The Black Bears regained the lead less than five minutes later as senior Kelly Nelson tallied her first goal of the season.
Both teams battled through a scoreless second period with the Friars outshooting the Black Bears 7-6.
Providence outshot Maine, 22-21. Sophomore goaltender Amy Quinlan made 19 saves for the Friars, while Maine’s Amanda Cronin made 20 stops.
The Friars moved to 3-2-1 (1-0-1 ECAC), while the Black Bears halted a three-game losing skid as they moved to 2-3-1 (0-3-1).
The Friars return to action on Friday, Nov. 9 as they travel to Niagara to face to the Purple Eagles.
