The Mercyhurst Lakers bounced back from a disappointing tie with Holy Cross Friday night to defeat Bentley 6-2 Saturday at the Ice Center.
The Lakers got a pair of goals from senior forward Tom McMonagle, his first lamplighters of the season, and two more from sophomore forward Mike Carter in turning back the Falcons. Junior forward P.J. Hiscock and freshman defenseman T.J. Kemp had the other Laker goals.
Mercyhurst led 4-0 late in the second period when the Falcons rallied for two scores within a span of 28 seconds.
Freshman forward Bryan Goodwin scored on the power play at 19:31 and sophomore Tim Calabro followed suit at 19:59.6 to get Bentley back in the game.
But sophomore goaltender Matt Cifelli and the Lakers allowed no further damage in the third as second goals of the game by McMonagle and Carter settled the issue.
Mercyhurst improved its overall mark to 3-3-1 and remained unbeaten in the MAAC at 3-0-1. Bentley dropped to 1-7-0 overall and to 1-3-0 in the conference. Mercyhurst outshot Bentley 34-26.
Cifelli got the win between the pipes while freshman Simon St. Pierre took the loss for the Falcons.
