Wisconsin-Stout scored six goals in the first period, including a Mitch Kellin natural hat trick in the first eight minutes, as the Blue Devils took an 8-2 win over Lawrence.
Kellin scored on the power play at 1:38. Two minutes later, Kellin tallied his second score, and at 7:59, Kellin scored his third goal.
Derek Nichols then scored for Stout at 9:02 and again at 12:05. Bryan Cummings notched his first collegiate goal 23 seconds later.
Neither team scored in the second period.
Mike Burkhart scored the Vikings’ first goal at 1:29 of the third period.
Joe Berry scored just before the five-minute mark of the third, and Lewie Kellin, Mitch’s brother, scored with about two and a half minutes remaining. Lawrence’s Blake Wilson scored in the final minute of the game.
Stout’s Jeff Dotson made 24 saves and got the win. Nathan Anderson, in relief of Dotson, had five saves. Each goalie gave up a goal.
Stout (2-0-0) opens its NCHA schedule Friday, Nov. 2, hosting Stevens Point, with Eau Claire visiting the following evening. Lawrence (0-2-0) visits Northland for a pair of games next weekend to start the MCHA season.
