Mike Brolsma scored two goals, including the eventual game winner, as Wisconsin-Stevens Point downed Elmira 5-2. The teams split the two-game weekend series, as Elmira won Friday, 6-3.
Elmira’s Steve Kaye got the Soaring Eagles on the scoreboard just 35 seconds into the first period. Ryan Feil scored his second goal of the season, tying the game at 2-2 on the power play for the Pointers at 3:12, and Kelly Kisell nothced his first of the season just before the midway point of the opening period to give Stevens Point a 2-1 lead after one.
Brolsma had the only tally of the second period, at 15:47.
The Pointers opened a three goal lead at 1:39 of the third period on Ryan Kirchoff’s first collegiate tally. Clark McPherson closed the Stevens Point lead to two, on his shorthanded goal at 12:11.
Brolsma’s second goal came with about two and a half minutes left in the contest.
Ryan Scott made 22 saves in the win, while Rob Ligas stopped 27 shots for Elmira.
Stevens Point (1-1-0) visits Wis.-Stout and Wis.-River Falls next weekend in the first two NCHA contests of the season, while Elmira (1-1-0) hosts Neumann, Friday, Nov. 2, to start its ECAC West calendar.
