Freshman Brad Olson earned a hat trick and added an assist as Manhattanville trounced Geneseo 10-1 in the NCAA opener for both squads.
Seifert was the only Valiant other than Olson to score multiple goals. The junior got Manhattanville on the board first at 3:58 of the first period and tallied again at 16:05 of the second, while adding four assists. Damon Ianillo also had four assists for Manhattanville.
Goaltender Jon Peczka started for the Valiants and made 14 saves in two periods, allowing just one goal. Jeremy Hill made seven saves for Manhattanville in the third period.
Brian Avery scored the only goal for the Ice Knights at 19:01 of the first, in Geneseo’s first game under new head coach Brian Hills. Freshman Brett Walker played the first two periods in goal, making 15 saves and allowing seven goals. Sophomore Jeff Phelps was in net the final period, allowing three goals on 12 shots.
Geneseo (0-1-0) faces another ECAC West opponent, Hobart, in the first round of the Chase Rochester Cup, Friday, Oct. 26, at 4:00 p.m. at RIT’s Frank Ritter Memorial Arena. Manhattanville (1-0-0) visits Neumann in the first ECAC West conference game of the season, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 6:15 p.m.
