St. Cloud State posted an 8-3 victory at MSU-Mankato on Friday. The win improves the Huskies’ record to 1-2 (1-2 WCHA), while Mankato falls to 0-5 (0-3 WCHA).
SCSU relied on a balanced attack that saw eight different players score for the Huskies.
Mankato gained a 1-0 lead early in the first period and held that margin until Kobi Kawamoto scored at 2:08 of the second. Fiona McLeod made it 2-1 with an unassisted goal at 8:26 followed by a goal from Tina Ciraulo at 9:47 of the second. MSU added another goal in the second while Roxanne Stang completed the period with another SCSU goal at 16:06 on the power play.
In the final period, SCSU iced the contest with goals from Andrea Keller, Abby Cooper, Dana Pretty and Nicki DelCastillo.
Laura Gieselman was the goalie of record for SCSU with 28 saves, while Katie Beauduy had 27 saves for the Mavs.
SCSU was a strong 4-of-6 on the power play.
The two teams will play again on Oct. 20 in Mankato.
