Northern Michigan scored twice in the game’s first four minutes and went on to defeat Lakehead University, 9-0, in an exhibition game Saturday night.
Freshman Alan Swanson and junior Bryce Cockburn each scored two goals for the Wildcats.
NMU’s first goal came shorthanded as Chris Gobert found the back of the net from Mike Stutzel at 2:29. A little more than a minute later, Bryce Cockburn scored on assists by Chad Theuer and Alex Sawruk.
Ryan Moderson, Cockburn and Alan Swanson scored goals in the second period.
The third period was a bit more of the same with goals from Swanson, Mark Stutzel, Jimmy Jackson and Brent Robertson.
The regular season open up in less than two weeks, when Bowling Green visits on Oct. 19 and 20 at 7:05 p.m. both nights.
“Yes, this is a good warm-up,” Wildcats head coach Rick Comley said. “It takes the edge off of practice.”
