Marian upended Minnesota-Crookston 5-1 in the championship game of the MCHA tournament Saturday night.
Marian built a 4-0 lead midway through the third period in its home rink at the Blueline Ice Center. Freshman Tommy Kotsopolous scored twice for the Sabres, while Kirk Joudrey, Joe Moreau and Brad Hawkins scored once each.
Joudrey and Moreau scored power-play goals in the second period. Hawkins then lifted Marian into a 3-0 lead 30 seconds into the third period and Kotsopolous built the lead to 4-0 at the 7:12 mark. Kotsopolous later added an empty-net goal.
Scott Swenson had Crookston’s only goal.
Crookston won the regular-season championship with an 11-0-1 record, while Marian was second at 11-2-1. Crookston won one of the team’s regular-season meetings 4-3 and the teams tied 4-4 in the second game.
