Scott Cooper scored a hat trick as Salem State advanced to the ECAC East semifinals with a 5-2 victory over Southern Maine Saturday night.
Cooper opened the scoring 1:38 into the game. Then he ended any hopes of a comeback by Southern Maine by scoring two third-period goals. The first came at the 8:28 mark after Southern Maine had closed within 3-2. Then he completed his hat trick 19 seconds before the game’s end.
Rob Miller and Dan Haugh also scored goals for Salem State. John Lauziere had both of Southern Maine’s goals.
