Adam Bouchard had two goals and two assists to pace Iona in a 6-3 victory over Bentley in MAAC action Saturday in Watertown.
The Gaels improved to 13-10-3 overall and 12-4-3 in MAAC play. The Falcons saw a two-game winning streak come to an end and fell to 4-17-2 overall, 3-15-2 in the conference.
Iona went ahead to stay with a three-goal outburst to close out the second period. Sophomore Mark Hallam tied the game, 2-2, at 4:45 before junior Nathan Lutz and Bouchard scored 32 seconds apart late in the stanza. Lutz’s goal came on the power play at 19:27 and Bouchard found the back of the net as time expired in the period. The goal, at 19:59, was the eventual game-winner.
Junior Ryan Carter, who had a hat trick on Friday in a victory over Holy Cross, scored the first Iona goal at 6:43 of the first period, finishing off a pass from Bouchard and freshman Tim Krueckl.
The Falcons answered with the first of two power-play goals at 17:10 of the first when junior John DiGennaro scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Bentley took a 2-1 lead just 1:25 into the second period with another power-play goal as freshman Joe Lovell knocked home the rebound of a shot by freshman Mike Mulligan.
After the scoring outburst to end the second, Bouchard scored Iona’s third power-play goal of the game and gave the visitors a 5-2 lead at 1:49 of the third. The Falcons weren’t done, however, as freshman Tim Calabro fired home a wrist shot at 7:11 to cut the gap to 5-3.
Iona closed out the scoring in the final seconds as sophomore Jean Paul Chaput scored an empty-net goal with Bentley on the power play.
Senior Ben Brady made 26 stops in goal for the Gaels, 11 in the third period, to earn the win. Falcon senior Ray DeVincent made 29 saves in net for Bentley.
